2014 Division

Opening their weekend with a 6-2 loss to the Dallas Penguins was not how the Carolina Jr Hurricanes envisioned starting their weekend. The Jr. Hurricanes bounced back later that night with a 4-3 win over the Texas Tigers and followed up with two more victories to secure their spot in the finals. Their opposition would be none other than the Dallas Penguins. The Penguins were undefeated; the Jr. Hurricanes had a chance to avenge their only loss on the weekend. The Penguins reinforced their dominance defeating the Jr. Hurricanes 6-1 and claimed their championship banner. The Penguin’s Lev Belyakov was named the 2014 Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

2013 Division

After the longest commute to Texas, the Alaska Oilers stumbled out the gate to the Texas Tigers but regained their footing and qualified for the quarterfinals. In one of the most exciting quarterfinals games, the Oilers eliminated the Houston Junior Aeros in overtime to advance. The Oilers went on to triumph over the Texas Tigers, earning their spot in the finals. There, they were set to face the Tampa Jr Bulls, another team that had traveled a long way from home. The Jr Bulls were undefeated and coming off a shutout victory in the semifinals versus the Arizona Bobcats. The Jr Bulls continued their stampede to the title by rolling over the Oilers. Following their 7-1 championship victory, Guinn Hill was named the 2013 Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

2012 Division

The Dallas Stars Elite 13 was no stranger to tight games. After knocking off the Texas Tigers in overtime of their quarterfinal match, they found themselves in overtime of the semi-finals versus the Tri Valley Bulls. The Bulls ended on top, maintaining their perfect record and advancing to face Top Gun Tier I in the championship. Top Gun was also undefeated and had proven to be a defensive juggernaut, averaging only one goal against per game. The offense of the Bulls was up for the challenge, scoring three goals, which proved to be just enough to edge them out 3-2. After the Bulls collected their championship banner, Nicholas Allen was named the 2012 Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

2011 Jetspeed Division

Of the four teams to reach the semifinals, only the Dallas Penguins and the Northwest Chargers were still unbeaten. The Chargers maintained their winning ways while the Penguins fell. The Chargers were one win away from a perfect weekend with only the Omaha Jr Mavericks Black standing in their way. The championship was heated, but in the end the Jr Mavericks came out on top 4-1.  After the Jr. Mavericks collected their championship banner, Grant Volzke was named the 2011 Jetspeed Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

2011 Supertacks Division

The stage was set for a Golden State battle in the 2011 Supertacks Division finals. The undefeated Anaheim Jr. Ducks were to face the California Bears. Though the Jr Ducks were undefeated, the Bears had proven their game throughout the weekend with a 3-0-1 record, with all three victories being shutouts. The championship match would also be a shutout, but in favor of the Jr. Ducks. Following the Jr. Ducks’ 1-0 nail-biting victory, David Lee was named the 2011 Supertacks Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

2010 Jetspeed Division

The Dallas Penguins made a statement through pool play as the only team to remain undefeated. The Penguins proceeded to shutout the Minutemen Flames in the semifinals and would rematch the Wasatch Renegades in the finals. The Renegades gave the Penguins their tightest match in pool play and were hoping to flip the script on their only loss. The Penguins were on a mission in the championship and shut out the Renegades 4-0. The Penguins’ Reilly Gillen was named the 2010 Jetspeed Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

2010 Supertacks Division

Of the four teams to reach the semifinals, only the Dallas Stars Elite and Carshield were still unbeaten. The Stars Elite retained their winning ways with a shutout victory over Seacoast Performance Academy, whereas Carshield fell to Omaha Mastery. On day one of the CCM Dallas the Stars Elite defeated Omaha 5-3 and were hoping for a repeat in the finals. Theynearly got the same result defeating Omaha 5-2 to claim their banner. Following the Stars Elite’s victory, Carson Janko was named the 2010 Supertacks Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

2009 Jetspeed Division

The 2009 Jetspeed Division proved that hockey is a game of the thinnest margins. The Tampa Bay Jr. Lightning were 2-0 when they woke up on Sunday morning, preparing to wrap up pool play and advance to the quarterfinals. They tied the McKinney North Stars to finish as the 6th seed. In the quarterfinals they needed overtime to defeat Nest Hockey Academy to advance to a semifinal rematch with the North Stars, where they again needed extra time to win. After three consecutive games where regulation ended in a draw, the Tampa Bay Jr. Lightning did it again. Their championship match with the Houston Junior Aeros was locked at 1-1 at the end of regulation, to no surprise, the Jr. Lightning won their third consecutive overtime. After claiming their banner, the Jr. Lightning’s Justin Bohannon was named the 2009 Jetspeed Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

2009 Supertacks Division

The Dallas Stars Elite averaged five goals for and 2.5 goals against through their four consecutive pool play games. The tightest game they played was a 5-4 victory over Omaha Mastery, and sure enough they would have to defeat them again to earn their banner. With their only pool play loss being to the Stars Elite, Omaha knew the championship would be a challenge. The Stars Elite took Omaha out of the game early and shut Omaha down to earn their championship hats. Following the Stars Elite’s 6-0 victory, Mark Djomo was named the 2009 Supertacks Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

15O Division

With matching 3-0 shutout victories in the semifinals, the Carolina Premier and the Orange County HC would face each other in the championship. This east versus west coast match featured two teams unbeaten in regulation (4-0-1), and it was anyone’s guess who would suffer their first loss. The final was tight, but Carolina came out on top by the final score of 5-3. After they collected their hats and banner, Cade Kinnear was named the 15O Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

16U Division

The 16U Division title would come down to an in-state rivalry faceoff. The undefeated Dallas Penguins and the undefeated Texas Tigers took the ice for the championship Sunday morning at Valley Ranch. The two Texas teams battled it out in a tight match, and the Tigers defeated the Penguins 3-2. After disposing of their in-state rival, the Tigers’ Brady Warrington was named the 16U Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

18U Division

The North Jersey Avalanche fell to the Clearwater Storm 3-2 in their final game of pool play which resulted in a 1-2-0 record, just enough to avoid elimination and advance to the eight team quarterfinals. A victory in the quarterfinal set the Avalanche up to rematch the Storm in the semifinals. The game required overtime, the Avalanche came out on top this time 3-2. The championship would again be a rematch for the Avalanche as they faced the team who defeated them in their first game of the weekend, the McKinney North Stars. The North Stars went 1-0-2 through pool play and retained their unbeaten in regulation streak through elimination games to the finals. With the banner on the line, the Avalanche and the North Stars’ match would be decided in overtime. The North Stars prevailed in overtime by the score of 3-2 and Zachary Davis was awarded the 18U Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

12U Girls Division

The LA Lions (4-0-0) and the Dallas Stars Elite (3-1-0) were to face off in the championship. Earlier in pool play, the teams faced each other in a tight 3-1 game with the Lions collecting the victory. The championship was even tighter. The Lions emerged victorious once more with a final score of 3-2. The Lions’ Campbell Smith was awarded the 12U Girls Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

14U Girls Jetspeed Division

Suffering a  shutout in their opening game was not how the West Dundee Leafs imagined starting out their weekend in Dallas. The Leafs rallied back and won four consecutive games, including an overtime victory in the quarterfinals. Their opposition in the finals would be the team that blanked them in their opening game of the weekend, the Alaska All Stars. West Dundee had no response to Alaska in the finals, with the outcome echoing their earlier pool play match – a 4-0 victory for the All Stars. After claiming their banner, Alaska’s Madelynn Derleth was named the 14U Girls Jetspeed Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

14U Girls Supertacks Division

After opening their weekend with a 1-1 tie, both the Dallas Stars Elite (2-0-2) and Team Alaska (3-0-1) remained undefeated in regulation. It was certainly a tight game with no draw for these two teams in the championship. As expected, the margins were slim, and the outcome of the game hinged on a single goal. By the final score of 2-1 Team Alaska was victorious. Following their championship victory, Alaska’s Olivia Yurkew was named the 14U Girls Supertacks Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

16U Girls Jetspeed Division

Coming off a semifinal shutout victory, Team North Dakota would battle Team Colorado in the championship. Team Colorado was undefeated to this point, including a 2-0 pool play victory over Team North Dakota earlier in the weekend. Team Colorado had no plans on the championship match being as tight as they defeated North Dakota 5-1.  After claiming their banner, Colorado’s Lindsay Aker was named the 16U Girls Jetspeed Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

16U Girls Supertacks Division

After opening their weekend with a 3-2 loss to Team North Dakota, the Dallas Stars Elite continued on to win the remainder of their pool play games to lock the spot in a championship rematch with Team North Dakota. The score resulted 3-2 again, but this time for the hometown team. The Dallas Stars Elite got redemption and earned their championship banner. Following their victory, Stars Elite’s Alexandria Tholl was named the 16U Girls Supertacks Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.

19U Girls Division

Rounding out their pool play with three shutout victories and improving their record to 4-0-0, the Dallas Stars Elite would face the Tri-City Eagles in the finals. The Eagles 2-1-1 with their only loss being at the hands of the Stars Elite. The Stars Elite keep up their winning ways with a 3-1 championship victory. Aspen Lukaseczk, Dallas Stars Elite’s, was named the 19U Girls Division Howie’s Hockey MVP.
