Frequently Asked Questions
What do we need to provide as part of tournament sanctioning?
All teams must submit their Certified USAH/Hockey Canada Roster NO LATER than 60 days before the tournament start date. If required by your state/affiliate, we must receive a Travel Permit as well. These permits and rosters must be approved/signed by your governing body/affiliate. If you have an electronic version of these documents, please email them to our Tournament Administrator. If you do not have an electronic version then you can fax the documents to 630-442-7238. Please be sure you bring your approved roster sheet and travel permit as back up to the tournament as well.
What determines what division teams are placed in?
Upon registration, please be sure to enter the Team Name as it can be found in the MyHockeyRankings.com database. The tournament staff will utilize team information, past results, and current ratings to determine the best level of play and competitive division for all teams. If they need any further information, it will be requested.
How are the divisions formatted?
The number of teams in each division depends on multiple factors, including overall tournament size, rinks, registrations, competitive level, and other items. Most playing divisions will include between 8 and 24 teams. Under no circumstances will there be less than four (4) in any playing division.
Division formats and playoff structures will be released no later than 3 weeks prior to the event.
When will the schedule be announced?
The schedule will be released no later than 2 weeks prior to the Matthew Tkachuk Cup start date and can be viewed on the Matthew Tkachuk Cup Schedule page.
How early can our first game be? / How late would the final game be?
Unless otherwise noted, all teams should expect to play two games on Day 1 and two games on Day 2, with the opportunity to advance to playoff or consolation games on Day 3.
Teams should be prepared for a 7:30 a.m. start on Day 1. The tournament schedule will conclude no later than 5:00 p.m. on Day 3 (6:00 p.m. for Michigan events). Any exceptions to this schedule will be communicated in advance.
Can games start earlier than scheduled time?
Teams / Officials must be ready to start games up to 15 minutes early. Games may start earlier than 15 minutes before the scheduled start time at the Tournament Director’s discretion. Teams ill-prepared to start on time will receive a bench minor penalty to start the game.
Do teams need two sets of jerseys?
YES. Home team listed shall wear its white/light colored jersey and the visiting team listed shall wear its colored/dark jerseys.
Are warm-up pucks provided?
NO. Your team must provide their own warm up pucks.
Do we need to bring roster stickers for the scoresheet?
YES. Your team MUST provide roster stickers for paper score sheets before each game. If you do not have stickers, the roster must be handwritten on the paper score sheet. Remember to pick up your copy of the scoresheet after the game is concluded.
