The Legacy

Howie Morenz

Born in Mitchell, Ontario, Howie Morenz made his NHL debut in 1923 with the Montreal Canadiens. Howie played with the Canadiens for 10 years and recorded over 400 points in 460 games. He also played with the Chicago Blackhawks, for 90 games where he recorded 55 points, before returning back to Montreal for his final season in 1936-37. Howie Morenz married Mary McKay, and they had three children: Howie Jr., Donald, and Marlene. Marlene would later marry Bernard Geoffrion (Boom Boom).

Blake Geoffrion

Blake joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (USNTDP) in 2004 where he stayed for two years then got recruited to play for the Badgers of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Blake won the Hobey Baker while in Madison, and was drafted 56th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by his hometown team, the Nashville Predators. Blake made his NHL debut on February 25, 2011 against the Dallas Stars. He was traded to the Montreal Canadiens on February 17, 2012 and wore the number 57 in honor of his grandfather and great-grandfather. Blake finished out his career playing with the Montreal Canadiens AHL affiliate the Hamilton Bulldogs, where he suffered a career ending injury. He decided to retire from the sport, but currently works for currently works for BHMS Investments in Chicago.
