The Boom Boom Cup Classics was named in honor of Danny’s father Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion. Danny’s father enjoyed a 16 year career in the NHL as a player and coach and earned the name “Boom Boom” due to the thunderous sound on the boards when he missed the net with his slapshot at practice. The hockey hall of famer is credited as the inventor of the slapshot.

The Boom Boom Legacy

Howie Morenz

Born in Mitchell, Ontario, Howie Morenz made his NHL debut in 1923 with the Montreal Canadiens. Howie played with the Canadiens for 10 years and recorded over 400 points in 460 games. He also played with the Chicago Blackhawks, for 90 games where he recorded 55 points, before returning back to Montreal for his final season in 1936-37. Howie Morenz married Mary McKay, and they had three children: Howie Jr., Donald, and Marlene. Marlene would later marry Bernard Geoffrion (Boom Boom).

Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion

Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion started his 16 year career in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens in 1950. He continued with the Habs until he joined the New York Rangers in 1966, until his last game in 1968. He then coached the Rangers for the 1968-69 season, the Atlanta Flames until the 1974-75 season and then was hired in Montreal to coach the 1979-80 Canadiens team. "Boom Boom" was the inventor of the slapshot, and earned the name Boom Boom due to the thunderous sound on the boards when he missed the net at a practice. A reporter at the practice nick named him Boom Boom. Boom Boom and his wife Marlene have children named Linda, Bob and Danny Geoffrion.

Danny Geoffrion

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Daniel was drafted 8th overall in the 1978 NHL Draft to the Montreal Canadians but jumped to the Quebec Nordiques of the World Hockey Association. He played 77 games for the Nordiques before moving south to play for the Montreal Canadiens in their 1979-80 season. The next season Danny moved on to Winnipeg to play two years with the Jets. Daniel only played one game during the 1981-82 season with the Jets, and later that year moved to Tulsa to play for the Oilers in the CHL where he tallied 49 points in 63 games. Danny then joined the Sherbrooke Jets of the AHL and recorded 76 out of his 80 games that season. Danny finished his career in Japan and now works for Bank Direct Capital Finance financing commercial lines Insurance premiums. Daniel and his wife Kelly have 4 sons, Nick, Blake, Sebastian and Brice.

Blake Geoffrion

Blake joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (USNTDP) in 2004 where he stayed for two years then got recruited to play for the Badgers of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Blake won the Hobey Baker while in Madison, and was drafted 56th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by his hometown team, the Nashville Predators. Blake made his NHL debut on February 25, 2011 against the Dallas Stars. He was traded to the Montreal Canadiens on February 17, 2012 and wore the number 57 in honor of his grandfather and great-grandfather. Blake finished out his career playing with the Montreal Canadiens AHL affiliate the Hamilton Bulldogs, where he suffered a career ending injury. He decided to retire from the sport, but currently works for currently works for BHMS Investments in Chicago.

Sebastian Geoffrion

Sebastian started his professional career when he joined the Indiana Ice in the USHL league during the 2008-09 season, then moved to Lincoln to join the Stars. He was then recruited to play for the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers of the Division I NCAA Hockey Program. He played all four years for Alabama before moving to Arizona to play with the Sundogs of the Central Hockey League. He stayed there for another year then moved up to the East Coast Hockey League team, the Missouri Mavericks for the beginning of the 2014-15 season. Sebastian has since retired from hockey and is working for Clearview Capital in Nashville.

Brice Geoffrion

Brice started his professional career through the North American Hockey League with the Motor City Metal Jackets in Detroit, Michigan. Brice then was recruited to play down in Alabama with the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers Division I program. Brice played all four years while in school, and graduated in 2014. Brice is working for CONLON Commercial in Chicago.
