2020 CCM Motown Recap

More than 220 teams from across the United States converged on Hockeytown last weekend for the 2020 CCM World Invite Motown. With nine different age groups split into 19 competitive divisions, 200×85 crowned its Detroit champions on Sunday afternoon.

2011 Elite Division: Pittsburgh Penguins Elite-Edwards capped off an undefeated weekend with a 4-1 win over the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies in the championship. The two teams skated to a 3-3 tie on opening day of the tournament but PPE heated up as the weekend progressed and won the title.

2011 AAA Division: The Chicago Bulldogs topped Sabres Hockey Association 5-1 to cap off three consecutive wins en route to a championship. Chicago finished the weekend with a 4-1-1 record and got a surge of offense in the form of 31 goals scored.

2010 Elite Division: The championship pitted No. 1 vs. No. 2 as the top team in each pool squared off. The finale was fittingly decided by a slim margin, as Chicago Mission edged out Valley Forge Minutemen 4-3 to take the title.

2010 AAA Division: The 16-team divisions came down to a pair of undefeateds in the Highland Park Falcons and the Arizona Jr. Coyotes. In a high-scoring, offensive track meet, Highland Park had just enough to outlast Arizona, 7-6 the final.

2009 Elite Division: When it came to playoff time, Highland Park was lights out. In three games, the Falcons allowed just two goals against, outscoring opponents 23-7 on the weekend and defeating Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 4-1 in the final.

2009 AAA Division: The Chicago Blues scored five-or-more goals in five games over the weekend, including the 7-3 final against fellow Chi-town program, the Chicago Bulldogs, in an All-Illinois final. The victory capped off a 5-0-1 weekend.

2008 Elite Division: Ending a perfect 6-0-0 weekend, the LA Jr. Kings defeated Team Illinois 5-2 in the championship. The Jr. Kings scored 33 goals in the tournament, leading all teams in the division in goal differential.

2008 AAA Division: The Chicago Bulldogs got better and better as the weekend progressed, and the exclamation point on the tournament was their 4-0 shutout victory over HoneyBaked Gold in the championship. Chicago finished 6-0-0 with a division-high 26 goals scored.

2007 Elite Division: The 16-team division came down to two metro-Detroit programs when HoneyBaked and Little Caesars squared off in the finale. Scoring five-plus goals for the fourth time, HoneyBaked rolled to a 6-0-0 record with a 7-1 victory over Caesars.

2007 AAA Division: Meijer posted three shutouts in an impressive defensive effort over the weekend. One of those blankings came against the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets, 4-0 in the division championship.

2007 AA Division: After narrowly escaping the semifinals with a 5-4 victory, the Kensington Valley Warriors topped Vipers Hockey by way of a 4-0 finish in the championship. The top team in the division, KV finished as one of just a few teams to rack up six wins over the weekend.

2006 Elite Division: Three of Compuware’s final four games down the stretch were decided by two goals or fewer, including a 3-2 victory over South Hills Panthers in the championship. Battle tested, Compuware posted a perfect 6-0-0 record in a hotly contested division.

2006 AAA Division: The largest division in the tournament with 24 teams, Meijer and Traverse City North Stars were the last two standing when the dust settled on Sunday. It took just one goal to decide a champion, as Meijer defeated TC 1-0 in the final.

15U Elite Division: After tying 3-3 on Friday afternoon, Little Caesars and Victory Honda met again on Sunday in the championship, where a winner had to be settled. Finishing the weekend 3-2-1, Victory Honda left no doubt who the champion was in the rematch, knocking off LC 6-0 to win the title.

15U AAA Division: The West Dundee Leafs were stout defensively down the stretch, holding opponents to just one goal against in three straight games. The championship, against Steel City Renegades, would be even more impressive with a 3-0 shutout and banner-clinching victory.

16U Elite Division: In a battle for the state of Illinois, the Chicago Mission lined up against Team Illinois to decide a champion. With plenty of back-and-forth action, the scales tipped in favor of TI just enough, with a 4-3 final and 4-0-2 run through the tournament.

16U AAA Division: Getting it done at both ends of the ice, Michigan Elite rolled with a plus-22 goal differential and finished the weekend with their best performance. Against New Trier White, Michigan Elite posted a 7-1 score to win the championship in decisive fashion.

18U Elite Division: Belle Tire did it all, scoring 31 goals over the weekend and holding opponents to two goals or fewer five times. Among those was the championship; a 6-2 win over MDHL white to win the division.

18U AAA Division: New Trier Green went 6-0-0 through the tournament, reigning atop the seven-team division with a plus-21 goal differential. A 3-0 win over the Orland Park Vikings would put a bow on their performance and claim the championship.

Motown was included in the CCM World Invite Series for the first time, and 2020 proved to be a very successful and competitive tournament for the 229 teams involved. For more from the CCM World Invite, or to register for your next tournament with 200×85, CLICK HERE.
