Weekend Recap: 2024 CCM Nations Cup

For many hockey players, representing their country is a dream come true. This year, the 2024 CCM Nations Cup brought that dream to life for 266 teams. Hosted in Detroit, the event welcomed 133 American teams and 133 Canadian teams across the 2015 to 2010 birth years. Setting a record for participation, the Nations Cup swapped traditional team jerseys for national pride, with players donning uniforms that proudly represented their countries.

Unlike typical tournaments, the Nations Cup doesn’t crown a single champion. Instead, teams face off in round-robin matchups against cross-border rivals to earn seeding for Championship Sunday. On the final day, each team competes against an equally ranked opponent from the other country, earning points based on their match seed. The country with the most points at the end of the day is declared the division champion, making it a true battle for national pride.

The energy in Detroit was unmatched, with players and parents alike contributing to the electric atmosphere. From vibrant patriotic outfits and flags waving in the stands to face paint and unbridled enthusiasm, the Nations Cup was a celebration of sport and spirit.

A heartfelt thank-you goes out to all the players, coaches, and families who made this event so special. Your energy and support are what make the CCM Nations Cup one of the most unique and memorable events of the season. Be sure to check out the division breakdowns to see which teams emerged victorious!
