A Look Back At CCM March Sadness
Five Teams Take Home March Sadness Titles
Fairytale runs, upsets, and tattered brackets are just a few of the symptoms of March Sadness. We saw all of that and then some, this weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan as 200×85 kicked off its spring tournament season. With teams from all across the country hunting for a tournament banner, our matchmakers and bracket experts knew that we’d be in for a show.
Let’s recap the championship games:
2006: Get the brooms out! The Marquette Jr. Wildcats went 4-0 on the weekend after defeating Fox Motors 3-1 in the Championship Game. We’ll give them a few bonus points for being the only team at the tournament to make it through the weekend unscathed.
2007: Can you say “barn-burner”? The Anaheim Jr. Ducks took this one into deep water. After going to double overtime with the No. 1-seed Nashville Jr. Predators, the Ducks sealed the deal in the shootout. 3-2 Final.
2008: The Kalamazoo K-Wings and the Anaheim Jr. Ducks tied 3-3 during pool play on Saturday. Lucky for us, the two teams remained perfect otherwise, which gave us the chance to watch them run it back. In the championship game, the K-Wings pulled off a nail biter 2-1 win over the Ducks to take home the title. One thing’s for certain, we hope we get to watch these teams match up again in the future.
2010: In similar fashion, Fox Motors and Indiana Elite tied on Saturday before facing each other again on Championship Sunday. Fox Motors kept the banner in Grand Rapids, after a convincing 6-2 victory over Indiana. That’s another match up we can’t wait to watch in the future.
2011: HoneyBaked racked up 26 goals this weekend en route to their title, including four goals in a hard fought victory over the Chicago Jets. The boys went 4-0-1 on the weekend, which included convincing wins over Compuware and Fox Motors.
